Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability

Budget Information - More Information

An historical perspective of OE, and its predecessor organizations, can be obtained by reviewing the Fiscal Year 2008 and previous fiscal year budget requests (e.g., fiscal year 2004 – 2007). These can be found on the website of DOE's Chief Financial Officer (same link as above). Such a review shows how the scope of activities has evolved over five fiscal years, and how priorities have shifted in response to changes in Administration policies, the Energy Policy Act of 2005, Congressional directions, and developments in U.S. and global energy markets.

The Fiscal Year 2008 OE budget request covers three subprograms:

  • Research and Development
  • Operations and Analysis
  • Program Direction

Research and development consists of four areas of activity:

The focus of these activities is developing and bringing to market the "next generation" of electric transmission and distribution technologies, tools, and techniques.

Operations and Analysis consists of two areas of activity:

PSA implements key electricity provisions of energy policy, provides technical assistance to States and regions on best practices regarding demand response, renewables, distributed generation, energy efficiency, regional planning/coordination, transmission siting, and issues Presidential permits for cross-border transmission facilities and electricity exports. Currently PSA is focusing on implementation of the electric grid modernization requirements of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

ISER applies the Department of Energy's technical expertise to ensure the security, resiliency and survivability of key energy assets and critical energy infrastructure at home and abroad. Activities include the implementation of the energy sector portions of the National Infrastructure Protection Plan and the Sector Specific Plan, as well as coordination with federal, state, and local stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and effectiveness in addressing energy supply disruptions.
